ZOA SWFL teams up with JFed Collier County

To all our friends and members of the ZOA SWFL, I hope you had a fun Summer and looking forward to the Jewish holidays and the Fall season.  We too are gearing up and looking forward to the new season.  As we enter our 8th season of existence our goal remains the same, to advocate for the greatest, Jeffersonian democracy in the world, the state of Israel.  Thanks to the ingenuity of our people and 50 years of philanthropy by Jewish and Christian organizations, Israel has been able to get on its feet and emerge as the economic, scientific, and military powerhouse she is today.
Unfortunately, with so much of her budget taken up by unrelenting security concerns, the need for outside funds to bolster social programs has never been greater.   This year in conjunction with the Jewish Federation of Collier County we’ve decided to join such efforts.  In addition to this season’s exciting speaker presentations, starting September we will be sending proceeds from our programs to 2 JFCC vetted, charitable organizations in Israel:
The Yad LaKashish Food Program: This program helps to meet the essential need for basic nutrition for the elderly poor in Israel. The main goals of this charity are:
  1.  Providing hunger relief on a daily basis to poor and indigent senior citizens.
  2.  Alleviating the cost of food purchase and burden of preparation for the needy elderly.
  3. Ensuring proper nutrition and nourishment among the elderly participants.
  4. Creating a sense of security within this group.
  5. Facilitating increased social and interaction integration within this group.
Neve Michael Children’s Village: The Neve Michael Children’s Village provides a loving home for 280 at risk children ages 4-18 years old.  Amongst other services, the Village provides:
  1. The only multidisciplinary children’s home in Israel.
  2. A 24/7 Emergency Crisis Center.
  3. Day Care facilities for 80 disadvantaged children.
  4. Elementary school for 110 students.
  5. A therapy and tutorial enrichment center.
For those traveling to Israel and wishing to visit either or both of these facilities please contact me and a private tour can be arranged.

UN Briefing Libels Israel – Justifies Arab Terrorism

1338982513_a8a9c9c853_z

Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) President Morton A. Klein and Liz Berney, esq. ZOA director of special projects released the following statement:

A briefing on April 27, 2016, sponsored by the anti-Israel 26-member UN “Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of Palestinian People,” was full of anti-Israel falsehoods, and demonstrated why the U.S. should defund the U.N. and eject the U.N. from the United States.  The briefing panel featured two “Palestinian” lawyers, including one from Addameer – which claims that it is a “human rights group” but reportedly is really a front group for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – which the U.S. designates as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).  See Dan Diker reportThe UN briefing panel libeled Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and claimed that the “humiliations” of “occupation” such as Israeli security checkpoints, justify terrorism by Palestinian Arabs.

The obvious goal of the UN’s “Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People” and last week’s briefing panel is Israel’s complete destruction.   The UN Committee’s stated purpose is Palestinian Arab “self-determination without external interference, national independence and sovereignty; and to return to their homes and property from which they had been displaced.”  In other words, the goal is for Palestinian Arabs to exercise sovereignty over, and overrun all of Israel.  During last week’s briefing, the panelists referred to Israel’s recapture of eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria in a defensive war as the “second occupation.”  (In other words, the briefing panel deemed Israel’s reestablishment in 1948 to be the “first occupation.”)  The briefing panel also demanded that UN member states take action against Israel because “you [the UN member states] created the problem.”  The phrase “you created the problem” apparently referred to various UN member states recognizing the State of Israel in 1948, and the UN’s admission of the State of Israel as a UN member in May 1949.

The obvious goal of the UN’s “Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People” and last week’s briefing panel is Israel’s complete destruction.

The panel falsely accused Israel of war crimes related to detaining, interrogating, and court procedures applicable to Palestinian Arab “children.”   In reality, the referenced “children” were teenage terrorists, who knifed and threw lethal, brick-sized rocks at innocent Israeli children and adults.  The so-called Palestinian Arab “children” were also above the age at which criminals are treated as adults in most of the United States.   Despite the fact that Palestinian Arab terrorists have caused hundreds of recent injuries and dozens of deaths to innocent Israelis, the Orwellian panelists falsely claimed that these Palestinian “children” were merely “throwing rocks at a wall” and that “Israelis throw down a knife” just to make it look as if Palestinian Arabs “children” are terrorists.

The panel specifically, falsely claimed that the Palestinian Arab “children” are convicted on the basis of confessions and secret files not shown to their counsel, and that Israel’s military courts system in the “occupied territories” is a discriminatory “kangaroo court,” and fails to provide “official” translators.  Even the U.S. State Department’s recent human rights report (which largely relies on false information from anti-Israel groups) recognizes that all of this is false.

The U.S. State Department report notes that:

“The evidentiary rules governing trials of Palestinians, and others subject to military law in the occupied territories, are the same as evidentiary rules in criminal cases.  According to the Ministry of Justice, the law does not permit convictions based solely on confessions.  The government stated that the evidentiary rules applied in military trials were the same as those applied in civilian courts and did not allow presentation of secret evidence not provided to the defendant or their counsel.  Counsel may assist the accused in such trials, and a judge may assign counsel to defendants. Indigent detainees do not automatically receive free legal counsel for military trials, but almost all detainees had counsel, even in minor cases. Court indictments were read in Hebrew and, unless the defendant waived this right, in Arabic.  Authorities translated all military court indictments into Arabic.  At least one interpreter was present for simultaneous interpretation in every military court hearing, unless the defendant waived that right. Defendants may appeal through the Military Court of Appeals and then to the Supreme Court.”

The briefing panel also complained that there has been an uptick in detentions since October 2015.   The panel failed to mention that September 2015 was the beginning of the recent wave of Palestinian terror, in which Palestinian Arab terrorists have murdered 34 innocent Israelis and injured 447 innocent Israelis in stabbing, shooting, vehicular ramming and bus bombing attacks.Instead, the panel just mentioned increased “demonstrations.”

The panel also complained about detentions of what they called “social media activists.”  The panel failed to mention that Palestinian Arab so-called “social media activists” urge their friends to murder Israelis, and post diagrams of the best parts of the human body to stab in order to kill the victim.

The panel also complained that Israel was violating the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and overusing the “security” exceptions of the UNCRC.  The UNCRC may not even apply to Israel’s territories.  Moreover, even the supposed “violations” falsely alleged by the panel are not violations of the UNCRC.  For instance, the briefing panel alleged that Israel was violating the UNCRC because Israel uses soldiers who speak Arabic as translators instead of “official” translators.  However, UNCRC Article 40.2(vi) merely provides that States shall ensure that children accused of a penal violation “free assistance of an interpreter if the child cannot understand or speak the language used.”   There is no requirement of an “official” translator (whatever that means).   Providing a soldier who speaks Arabic does not violate the UNCRC.

While accusing Israel of non-existent violations of the UNCRC, the so-called “human rights” panelists had nothing to say about the fact that numerous Muslim countries (including Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Maldives and Mauritania) openly state that they will not follow the UNCRC when the UNCRC conflicts with Islamic (Shariah) law.  Islamic countries also specifically state that they will not abide by the UNCRC’s provision granting children freedom of religion because “allowing a child to change his or her religion runs counter to the provisions of the Islamic Shariah.”

Interestingly, when ZOA’s representative asked whether any of the panelists’ “human rights” organizations dealt with the fact that Hamas forces Palestinian Arab children to dig tunnels, and killed 160 children who were digging the tunnels (including murdering children so as not to disclose the tunnels’ location), the Addameer attorney (Sahar Francis) admitted that “it is well known that Hamas violates human rights.”  She then falsely asserted that Israel also violates human rights.  (Perhaps the admission about Hamas reflected rivalry between the two terrorist organizations, Hamas and PFLP.)

None of the panelists or UN Committee members expressed interest in recognizing and pursuing real peace with the Jewish State.   Instead, the panel and UN committee is pursing lawfare (war via courts), a propaganda war against Israel and abusive use of UN forces.   The panelists demanded that the International Criminal Court (ICC) should move forward with (false) claims against Israel; that UN member countries throughout the world should assert “universal jurisdiction” to bring (false) war crimes claims against Israel; and that the UN should send a protection force to the “OPT” (so-called “occupied Palestinian territories” – correctly known as Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem) to “protect” Palestinians from Israel.  The UN Security Council will be meeting for a briefing on May 6 focusing on this Orwellian “protection force” demand.   See UN to Meet on May 6 on Protection of Palestinian Civilians (WaPo).  All this, when, in fact, it is innocent Israelis who need protection from Palestinian terrorists.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe’s plan to beat terror

Op-Ed: The Lubavitcher Rebbe’s plan to beat terror

Published Arutz Sheva: Monday, February 22, 2016 9:56 PM

There is a popular joke about a man standing trial for the murder of his own parents. After he is unequivocally proven guilty, the judge turns to him and asks: “Do you have anything to say in your defense?” The defendant replies, unhesitatingly: “Yes. I beg the court to show leniency due to my unfortunate situation. I was recently tragically orphaned of both my father and mother…”

Today, regrettably, this is no longer a joke, but a fact of life. We are constantly being bombarded by claims that Israel is “stuck” in the current political situation. That our inability to quash the murderous wave of terror now sweeping our streets leaves us no option but to return to the bargaining table; in other words – to surrender, to retreat, and to offer our enemies ever more gifts, beyond the capitulation and weakness we have already shown by freezing settlement construction, evicting Jews from their homes, and more.

The absurdity of the situation screams out to heaven; for it is the Israeli governments that created the current situation – by promoting the warped idea that by “giving up a little here, giving up a little there, we will gain a little peace and quiet.”

We ourselves have convinced the Palestinian Arabs that they can defeat us with their rocks and knives and guns.

We ourselves have given them weaponry, money and power, self-identify and a seditious media.

We ourselves have granted the Arab citizens of Israel the “equal right” to identify themselves as Palestinians and to teach their children to seek the destruction of Israel, all the while enjoying “affirmative action,” and other benefits, while we foot the bill.

We ourselves have convinced America and Europe that the Palestinian Arabs are a “peaceful and enlightened nation,” who deserve their own country, rather than showing them the sad truth – that they are one anti-Semitic entity. And now, we announce:“There is nothing to do! We have to stop ruling over them. And don’t forget about for the demographic threat!” – and all the other empty slogans we have been hearing for thirty years.

And all the while, those clever pundits, with their dangerous slogans, shoot back at us: “Nu, so what is your solution? Should we just leave this awful situation the way it is, with innocent Jewish blood being spilled day after day by those murderers, while our security forces stand helpless?”

G-d forbid! The Torah forbids us to say: “That’s how it is,” or (as we hear from some of those in the media and Israeli security forces) “We have to learn to live with it.”

There is an authentic Jewish answer. Maimonides writes, at the beginning of the Laws of Public Fasts, “It is a positive Torah commandment to cry out and sound trumpets over every misfortune that threatens the community… this is one of the paths of repentance – that when misfortune strikes, and the people cry out [to G-d] and sound trumpets, everyone will realize that these tragedies occur on account of their misdeeds. This [repentance] will bring an end to the misfortune. However, should the people not cry out [to G-d], or sound the trumpets, but rather, claim that ‘what happened to us is simply a natural phenomenon, and this misfortune is a mere chance occurrence,’ then he is being cruel…”

If a person says: “Sorry, there is nothing to do. There will always be one ‘wave of terror’ or another,” or offers some version of Maimonides words: “this misfortune is a mere chance occurrence” – he is, in the eyes of the Torah, being “cruel” and heartless.

For over four months, Jewish blood has been spilled in our streets on a daily basis. Men, women and children have been attacked and killed in our shops, our homes and in all places. We must think deeply about the situation and fight against it with all our strength.

We don’t have to be anthropologists or intelligence agents to find an answer. It’s enough to listen to every terrorist who has been caught, every Palestinian protester, and even the Arab members of parliament. The Israelis are scared, they have lost faith in themselves and no longer believe that the land on which they live was given to the Patriarchs Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov – that Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel, actually belongs to them. Proof? They have already folded up their tents and retreated from large tracts of Eretz Yisrael, and they plan on doing so even more. All we have to do is keep exerting pressure, keep striking them, killing and wounding them, frightening them and causing them to despair. For the more pressure they feel, the more they will give up and give in – until (as the Jewish Code of Law writes) “the land will be easy to conquer.”

This is just one of the ways the Palestinian Arabs rationalize their actions and at times, it’s the actual motivation inspiring a terrorist who kills Jews with rock or knife, gun or missile. The Oslo Agreement, the Hevron Agreement, freeing prisoners, political negotiations, the “ranch,” the disengagement, the construction freeze, and the goal of “two states for two peoples” – all of these are deeply etched in the consciousness of every single Arab who wants to feel part of the historic victory over the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. This is more than simply a “tail wind” to terror; it is both the fuel and the gas pedal that drive it.

As much as forty years ago, the Lubavitcher Rebbe spoke precisely about our current situation. Even his own hassidim didn’t always understand what he was so adamant about and wondered at his heartfelt cries because things didn’t look so grim back then. Today, however, everyone realizes that the Rebbe simply saw everything. And that by merely reading the well-known laws in the Shulchan Aruch (OC 329), he foresaw the pain that is now being etched into our very flesh. He cried out as though he beheld, with his own eyes, the knife plunged into the heart of an innocent Jew merely walking down the street.

The Rebbe said explicitly, in his famous talk with Rabbi Elimelech Naimon. “I see with my own eyes the danger hovering over all who dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem, in Ein Harod, and in Tel Aviv, by handing over parts of Eretz Yisrael to the goyim. Therefore, I will in no way change my mind about this.”

The Rebbe foresaw how even the mere suggestion – not an official declaration – of withdrawal and concession in the face of pressure and terrorism would lead to more terrorism, more suicide attacks, and more innocent blood being spilled.

In thirty years of terrorism, have we ever seen the residents of an Arab town evicted? In the midst of various confrontations, have we ever seen the general Arab public suffer from the violence or terrorist attacks that they themselves initiated? Never! Yet, we have seen dozens of Jewish settlements cruelly dismantled, synagogues demolished, and Israeli soldiers retreating under fire. What does the Palestinian Arab stand to lose with his wars and his cruelty? After all, he continues to receive our aid (or from the rest of the world, through us), as well as electricity, money, weapons, and more. It is a win-win situation, and they stand only to benefit further, by increasing their attacks.

This brings us to an even a more difficult question: everyone has seen where the Oslo agreements and the disengagement brought us – Palestinian incitement, the tunnels that continue to be dug from Gaza, the monstrous increase in the strength of our enemies, and the Jewish blood that is being spilled like water. Has any of the architects of Oslo and the disengagement ever been brought to trial? Have we ever heard a word of regret from any of them? Have they ever shared some soul-searching with the public? Just the opposite is the case. They continue crying out “We are orphans! The situation is unbearable! There’s no way out but to concede!”

The time has come to stop living with these lies and to start living with the truth. There is only one way to stop this cycle of blood and it is to uproot the main incentive and goal of all the terrorism and bloodshed. It requires those who formulated the Oslo Accords and the disengagement who continue to work in key positions in the Israeli government, to stand up before the entire world and declare: “We are guilty, we have acted wrongly… this whole long road of negotiating and concessions has been one awful mistake from the offset. We take responsibility for all the innocent blood that has been spilled due to our egregiousness. Henceforth, the entire Land of Israel will remain under Israeli control, unconditionally, and in spite of

anything the rest of the world has to say. This is not up for negotiation.”

It is clear that neither the right-wing government nor the slogans of a “war against terror” will actually stop the murder and incitement. Only a clear and historic pronouncement that the period of negotiations has ended, the false equation of “land for peace” will no longer be tolerated, there will never be a Palestinian state and the Oslo Agreement and everything it implies is thoroughly annulled.

One of the ways to accomplish this, according to the Rebbe, is to publicize, by every means possible, the psak din (halakhic decision) of the great Rabbis of Israel, that any negotiations concerning the handing over territories are a threat to the Jewish people (as the Shulchan Aruch states, OC 329), and forbidden.

Today, even the blind can see just how true this is – to our great misfortune. Each and every one of us must publicize this psak din and to do all that is in his or her power – for the sake of our lives, the lives of our children, and the lives of all Jews who live in the Holy Land.

Our lives depend on it, and with G-d’s help, we will be victorious.

Op-Ed: The Lubavitcher Rebbe’s plan to beat terror

The Rebbe saw the danger hovering over the Jewish state and gave sage advice for the Jews in the Land of Israel.

ZOA SWFL Applauds Anti-BDS Supporters

Recently Colorado and Arizona enacted “anti-BDS” bills and joined Illinois (the first in July 2015) and South Carolina. More and more states, 21 at last count, have presented bills to the US Congress as positive action to prevent economic warfare against the Jewish State.
This could not come at a more critical at a time; with the BDS movement so zealously infiltrating the mindset of the uninformed American public. Despite their purported objective; BDS is not about justice for Palestinians. If it were, the BDS movement would also be opposed to the Palestinian Authority, Fatah and Hamas; who actually oppress and impoverish their own people while consuming a huge percentage of international aid for indoctrination of their children to become terrorists, build up illegal armies and offensive weaponry stockpiles and construct “terror tunnels”. Instead; the BDS movement is just another enemy of the Jewish state rooted in traditional anti-Semitism.
In reality; BDS is extinguishing what had remained of peaceful co-existence, by inciting hatred and needlessly damaging the economic well-being of Arab Israelis. The most obvious example is its forced relocation of SodaStream©, costing the loss of 500 well-paying Arab jobs last October.

PLO leadership agreed, in 1993 by signing of the Oslo accords, to cooperate economically with Israel. Instead, PA leadership and anti-Israel hate groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine, Friends of Sabeel-North America and Jewish Voice for Peace have mounted anti-Semitic econo-warfare against Israel and Jews worldwide; including here in the USA.
As recently as February 2016; Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and ten other House members requested that the State Department investigate claims that Israel has committed “gross violations of human rights” with the intent to force cuts in military aid to Israel. Not surprisingly; this investigation was not released until after a frenzied media outbreak about an Israeli soldier shooting a “stabbing” terrorist. Which, at that time, according to MDA’s report of the latest form of intifada tallied 33 Israelis killed and more than 300 wounded in 222 terror attacks.

A number of far left-wing Jewish groups have been actively working to stop the passing of anti-BDS legislation. It is important to know and share this list of groups which includes: Partners for Progressive Israel, J Street (by honoring, featuring, and sponsoring BDS leaders at conferences and college campuses), Jewish Voice for Peace, Open Hillel, Americans for Peace Now, The Third Narrative (subsidiary of Ameinu), and the New Israel Fund (funds BDS groups, including the groups that built BDS infrastructure).

These groups along with Students for Justice in Palestine and Friends of Sabeel-North America are using university campuses as primary indoctrination centers. The ZOA, working with regional partners to monitor and identify extreme anti-Semitism that Jewish and pro-Israel students are facing in light of BDS activities; has developed statements and provided information to Campus Regents to assist them in identifying specific incidents college students have been facing. Campus Regents are beginning to recognize and acknowledge that anti-Israel events and BDS campaigns contribute to an atmosphere of hostility on campus which incites individuals to commit hate crimes against and target Jewish students.

The ZOA applauds Congress and House representatives and college administrators for their efforts to oppose the anti-Semitic econo-warfare of the BDS movement and support the right of Israel to self-determine. The goal of our ZOA chapter, like that of the national organization, is to educate the community, the general public, elected officials, and the media about the truth of the ongoing Arab war against Israel. We invite you to visit our web site at www.zoaswfl.org to learn more, to register to attend our programs and to get involved.

Op-Ed: There is a partner

 Dr. Mordechai Kedar

There is an alternative to establishing another failed state in the Middle East.

Last week’s Israeli government cabinet meeting included a discussion of possible scenarios for when the Palestinian Authority collapses. This would bring the Jewish and Arab population of Judea and Samaria to where they were before the Oslo Accords were signed, and leave Israel responsible for finding a way to deal with the Arab population of the region. This is, of course, taking into account that Gaza now has a stable and legitimate government, a Hamas government, a fact Israel is willing to live with indefinitely.

The important question is what Israel will do with Judea and Samaria, when the world demands a two state solution. Does Israel have a partner to deal with?

The first time Israel agreed to establish an official Palestinian Arab body was at the Camp David Accords, the agreement reached between Israel and Egypt in 1978. In these agreements, then Prime Minister Menachem Begin agreed to establish an autonomous authority for the Palestinian Arabs in Judea, Samaria and Gaza with “a strong police force.”  This agreement was rejected by the PLO which saw it as “granting Arab legitimacy to the Zionist entity and Egyptian abrogation of the right to independent decision making by the Palestinian people.”

The PLO did not agree to autonomy and demanded a Palestinian state on the ruins of the state of Israel. It saw no way to recognize Israel as a legitimate state, even if it took up just one square millimeter of “Palestine.” The Camp David Accords led to peace between Egypt and Israel, but to no breakthrough on the Palestinian issue. Since the 1980s, Israel has been searching for a recognized, accepted Palestinian body that will take the responsibility for enforcing law and order in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. In the early 1980s, Ariel Sharon gathered a few people on the margins of Arab society, gave them Uzis and authority, named them “The Association of Villages” and hoped they would enforce law and order in their surroundings. The experiment failed, in large part because Sharon did not depend on the heads of local clans, the large extended families called hamoulot who form the traditional leadership in Judea and Samaria’s cities, but whom he felt wielded too much power. People who knew the situation well warned him not to give weapons to these marginal people, but Sharon, who did not make a habit of taking advice, did not listen to them.

Another attempt to seek out Palestinian Arab leadership was towards the end of the first Intifada, the uprising started in late 1987 and brought Hamas
Anyone who has not yet noticed, is asked to look at Gaza where since June 2007 (eight years!) there is a functioning state.
onto center stage, to be followed soon after by Islamic Jihad. In 1992, then Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin tried to deal with the terror sown by these organizations by exiling their leaders to southern Lebanon. However, Israel’s Supreme Court forced him to allow them to return, and this failure pushed the government to search for another organization that would accept the responsibility for dealing with Hamas and Islamic Jihad “without the [interference of Israeli] courts and the Betselem [human rights]’ organization”, to quote the late prime minister.

Several months earlier, as a result of the October 1991 Madrid Conference, secret contacts were initiated between several Israelis and PLO representatives in Oslo, Norway. Those contacts led to the signing of the Oslo Agreements on the White House lawn in September 1993. The agreements were based on the illusion that the PLO had put down its arms, turned into a peace movement, given up its plans to eliminate Israel, would change the PLO Covenant, recognize Israel and accept  the responsibility of creating something that is less than a state on the territory Israel would hand over to PLO control. Everyone knows how that story ended, but the signs were there from the beginning. It is simply a case of there are “none so blind as those who will not see.”

The Oslo Agreements created the Palestinian Authority, an entity which quickly abrogated its first mission, that of fighting terror. Instead, it continued its anti-Israel incitement in the media, the public sphere and the educational system (whose budget was made up of overseas donations).  Since then, the PLO continues the battle against Israel on the international stage and pushes for BDS.

The establishment of the Palestinian Authority allowed terrorists wielding kalashnikov rifles to take over its Legislative Council  in the January 2006 elections and go on to take over  Gaza in June 2007. All the polls taken so far point to a clear victory for Hamas in the next Palestinian Authority elections – if there ever are any – and that includes capturing the po‎sition of chairman, so that the act of exercising democracy will turn Judea and Samaria into a terrorist state.

This leads to the generally accepted remark that “there is no Palestinian partner”, since it has become clear to all that the PLO has no desire for a peaceful state alongside Israel. In fact, it hopes to establish a terror state on Israel’s ruins and the last twenty years have sufficed to convince most Israelis of the futility of trying to change that. Much of the left has realized that the Oslo Accords were a fatal mistake, but has not come up with an alternative to the two-state solution, continuing to see the Palestinian Arabs as a “nation” with the right to self-rule.

The real truth about the Arab world has become obvious over the last few years. The modern Arab state is a dismal failure that did not succeed in convincing its own citizens that it is a better choice than clinging to traditional tribal loyalties and ethnic groups (Arabs, Kurds, etc.), religious groups (Muslim, Christian, Alawite, Druze, etc.) and warring groups within the same religion (Shiite, Sunni, etc.). The nationalism offered by the modern state has failed to create a Syrian, Iraqi, Libyan, or Sudanese basis for a national consciousness and the proof of that is playing out in front of our eyes as we witness the terrible civil wars that show where the real loyalties of each population sector lie.

There is no “Palestinian nation” either. The Arab residents of the land of Israel west of the Jordan are really made up of tribes and clans with accepted tribal leadership and binding social traditions. They live in demarcated areas and enjoy active lives in their communities. The  PA, a creation of the PLO, just like Syria, Iraq, Libya and Sudan, has failed to find its way into Palestinian Arab hearts. The only thing united them all is hatred of Israel, so that if a state does get established in PA territory, it will, in all probability, turn into another Gaza  at best or into another Libya and Syria in the worst case scenario.

Israel and the rest of the world must not support the establishment of another failed Arab state based on the illusory concept of a non-existent people which will soon bring untold suffering on its citizens and their neighbors.

What is that elusive alternative people keep on looking for? The alternative solution exists. In the Middle East the right thing to do is to establish states on the basis of tribal loyalties. That is the basis of the Gulf States: Kuwait, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharqa, and Umm al-Quwain.   These are tranquil, stable emirates, each with a majority of citizens who are members of a single tribe.

A homogenous society creates stability, a legitimate legal framework and a legitimate government. The citizens of an emirate do not fight each other because they belong to the same tribe, and can turn their oil into prosperity. Saudi Arabia and Oman are also countries that have tribal cultures that keep them stable. Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Sudan are oil producing, but life in those countries is short and bitter because of the endless fighting between rival groups. These are fragile and illegitimate countries created by British, French and Italian colonialist powers, all based on the Western model of a nation.

This is also the way we must address the Palestinian Arab problem, and instead of creating another failed Western-model state that has no chance of succeeding in the Middle East, create seven emirates in the Arab cities of Judea and Samaria, based on the powerful extended families in each of those cities. Hevron can be the emirate of the Jabri, Abu Sneineh, Qawasmi, Natsheh and Tamimi tribes, Jericho of the Erekat tribe, Ramallah of the Barghouti tribe, Nablus of the al Masri, Tukan and Shak”ah tribes and so on in Tulkarm, Kalkilya and Jenin.

Anyone who has not yet noticed, is asked to look at Gaza where since June 2007 (eight years!) there is a functioning state.

In addition, Israel has to remain in control in the villages and surrounding areas of Judea and Samaria in order to prevent the formation of a terrorist contiguity uniting the discrete city-emirates, but.Israel can then offer citizenship to the residents of these villages who make up only about 10% of the Arabs in Judea and Samaria. The other 90% can stay in their independently run city-states.

These are the broad parameters of a program based on the “partner” to be found in each city-emirate, the natural, traditional leadership of the large clans in each city. Israel must negotiate with each emirate and reach an agreement with each one on the issues of electricity, water, waste, roads, industry, agriculture, traffic, security, the use of ports and airspace, and the boundary lines of each. If the emirates wish to form a federation, so be it. That doesn’t pose a problem as long as their territories are not allowed to be contiguous.

The PLO, the organization that runs the Palestinian Authority, never agreed to the existence of the state of Israel as a Jewish state, and is therefore not a partner for peace. Israel, however, has a partner in each Judea and Samaria city. Israel must bring about  the collapse of the PLO and PA, the two entities preventing a lasting peace agreement with the residents of Judea and Samaria, who will then be able to establish thriving emirates on the lines of Dubai, if not even better.

The PLO, Hamas and Islamic Jihad want only wars, death and destruction, while peace between Israel and the Emirates will lead to growth and prosperity.

European Experts Turning To Israel

Op-Ed: It’s Jihad, Europe!

The war against the West is proof of the inept leadership of the Western world. A step by step history of how Islam took over Europe.

Published: Sunday, November 22, 2015 8:20 AM

“Those people are not coming to Europe to live; they are coming to die”.

After Friday November 13, 2015, we are living in a different reality. The reality of a switched off Eiffel tower, evacuated Hanover stadium, shut down Brussels subway, and tanks on the deserted streets of the capital of the European Union.   The people in the West are struggling to live a normal life in surreal circumstances, their minds pulsating with a flashing diagnosis: It’s Jihad, Europe!..

The fifteen lost years: 2000-2015

The escalating real and imminent danger to millions of Europeans did not strike the West out of the blue. It was all building up starting from the 9/11 attacks in New York and is a part of the existing strategy of radical Islam from the end of 1980s on. The success of the 9/11 attack had been a major and victorious landmark of this strategy, major encouragement to the forces of darkness.

But contrary to common sense and despite existing information about the radical Islamists’ plans and the list of their mounting activities, the Islamization of Europe – and the West, still in progress – was allowed to happen, both by the dangerously blinded Western leadership and by a largely naive public.

It is irrelevant to blame the special services for this. With all their shortcomings and occasional failures, the special services, especially the strong ones of the UK, Germany and some other Western European countries – France included – as well as the able special services of Canada and Australia  –  work day and night, with good results information-wise. The problem is what the special services are allowed – or not allowed – to do by their political bosses, by their countries’ leadership. And here is the core of the problem with regard to really fighting a war on terror.

Soon after the 9/11 disaster, from 2003 on, as the experts were realizing how little had been done in practice to prevent the spread of militant Islam, several senior analysts tried consistently to wake up the Western leadership to very real risks of the steady process of the radical Islamist penetration into Western societies – see my article on the issue “Europe: A Dangerous Place to Live”. This analysis has been widely cited in many books and dissertations on counter-terrorism, both in popular and professional publications. At the time of the analysis’ publication, its headline was widely perceived as ‘a bold metaphor’. Just 12 years on, this line has become a very much-used statement in the media, a development that I deeply regret.

Further on, alerted by radical Islam’s swamping Europe, my colleagues and I continued thoroughly examining the origins, realities and implications of the process that resulted in the report: Islamization of Europe: The Origin, Process, Objections and Implications, presented by myself at the Institute of World Politics in Washington DC in early 2013.

I have never been so depressed in my professional life as I became while working on and upon finishing that paper. The reality of the danger posed by radical Islam all over the world, in particular, in Europe and the West in general was so graphic – and so meticulously documented –  that it did not leave much room for hope that it would not erupt. It was almost three years ago. But again, nothing was done to act and to prevent Europe’s blood-baths.

If General al-Sisi would not have come to rescue his country, the nucleus of the Middle East, from living according to the  Middle-Ages dictum of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Jihad in Europe would have started in 2013, according to the detailed documented data gathered by the leading anti-terror experts. Still, general al-Sisi is regarded as a ‘dictator’ by many Western decision-makers.

Meanwhile, President Obama is steadily promoting one of his favourite aides, Rashad Hussain, to top positions in the US Administration, such as the US Special Envoy and Coordinator at the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications. The aide in question has been asserted by the US law-enforcement agencies as having strong links to the Muslim Brotherhood. And he is just one of several key operatives of the Muslim Brotherhood who are consistently welcomed by the current US Administration.

Following the publication of the paper on the Islamization of Europe back in early 2013, my good and responsible colleagues at the European Parliament – there were some of them then, although in the minority – were alarmed and intended to call a serious policy-making seminar at the European Parliament to tackle this looming acute threat. The seminar was to issue a policy paper on that vital matter. The seminar never happened, neither was drafting a policy paper ever discussed officially. The reason fpr that non-action was the blatant unwillingness to touch the issue on the part  of European bureaucrats of the second and third echelon. And, unlike myself and my good and brave friends and MEP-colleagues, they seemed to be frightened by the threats they received.

As recently, as in the July 2014, I published a new analysis, Hate is All Over the Islamicised West –  explaining the motivation of the radical Islamists based in Europe and warning of the imminent danger of a possible Jihad explosion there. This is the one of those cases when it feels really bad to turn out to be correct.

After working on the matter for over twenty years, I have to emphasize that after the shock of the terror attack on US soil on 9/11, the last fifteen years which could have been utilized to prevent the explosion of violence in Europe have been lost by the Western community.

Jihad in Europe: Here and now

What has triggered the explosion of Jihad in Europe right now? Who made it possible? Who practically invited it to happen?

As shocking as it sounds, some of the key Western governments and the general ineptness of the Western leadership towards militant radical Islam were an essential pre-condition of the unfolding siege of Europe.

Despite all alarming information gathered by the BND and MAD, the German counter-intelligence service, presented to the German Chancellor, in early September 2015 frau Merkel had made a mistake of her life. The calibre of that mistake is unprecedented in the newest European history. It literally has put the lives not only of over 80 million of Germans but of 750 million of Europeans at jeopardy of terrifying scale.

Just prior to Merkel’s infamous statement opening the borders of Germany to Syrian refugees, several very senior German law-enforcement officials were either fired, or pushed towards abrupt and premature retirement, including the very senior federal prosecutor and several other top law-enforcement officials who sharply disagreed with Merkel’s extremely dangerous policy of opening Germany’s, and effectively, European borders to the stream of uncontrollable immigrants from the Middle East.

It is no secret  – and has never been a secret – that among the multi-million strong stream of refugees there are far too many Islamist radicals with their own agenda and purpose in coming to Europe. One simply had to be honest about it.  Maybe, Merkel has been in office too long. It is a known phenomena that top politicians who are in office for an extended time lose focus and become detached from the reality. The tragedy of her fatal mistake is that she virtually took all Europe hostage for the sake of the militant and violent strangers being invited to invade. Remember those sugary selfies of celebrating Muslim males on German soil with Frau Chancellor? She even did free PR for them.

With her September 2015 suicidal political adventure, Merkel switched on a similar decision-making among the leadership of the EU Commission, the ultimate masters of the old continent nowadays. If Germany would choose another way of handling the refugee issie, the EU leadership would follow it accordingly. As the result, the entire continent with its 750 million citizens has been literally forced by their own governments into a living nightmare.

There are many shocking videos and TV footage of the refugees invading Europe that we have been seeing daily for a several months now. These facts have been summarized by some as the ‘forced collective suicide of Europe’. This is an invasion, and one has to be totally blind to call it anything else.

As with other invasions, this one has been orchestrated and carried out down to the smallest detail, and the special services in every country has full details of this aggressive migration which began and received much help from Turkey. The German Chancellor, caught red-handed, metaphorically speaking, with the most blatant misjudgement, has tried hard to influence her Turkish counter-part to size down the multi-million stream of refugees, to no avail. This is now a win-win situation for Turkey and its president Erdogan, and a lose-lose one for Merkel and the entire Europe.

How could an experienced politician become so utterly irresponsible, so dangerously unreasonable, so openly blind? Experts have several several explanations for Merkel’s blow to humanity. It includes her strong desire to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize – she is idealistic enough to value the prize as it was valued by many of us in her youth; it also includes her very pragmatic intention to get to the top of the world’s power by being nominated as the next UN General Secretary. Those who are familiar with the inside story of Merkel’s rise to power, are not surprised by any of it for a minute.

Her fatal blindness is also attributed to her wish to believe in those good – in general – sides of the character of the suppressed believer (she is the daughter of the pastor in DDR, mission impossible for both her father and herself) who did not have many chances to apply those good principles in the very hard world of power. Whatever she meant to, she failed catastrophically. The worst part of it is that the prize for a mistake of one individual will be paid by millions, and has already claimed 130 lives in Paris.  And she still does not get it, publicly, at least.

Even after the fact that the Chancellor cortege had to make a U-turn on the way to the Hanover stadium after receiving precise information on the imminent attack at the very last moment, Merkel did not utter a word on the character of the averted multiple attack on German soil although German authorities received from their French colleagues five names of Islamic terrorists, all of whom migrated to Europe at different times.

According to the German media (Der Spiegel, Die Welt and the others), there is no  question that Angela Merkel will lose the elections next year; she is hearing demands to resign now, and there is a rapidly growing number of  sympathisers with this steadily intensifying call.

The tragedy of a full-scale jihad in Europe is that it is not just the German Chancellor, or the totally incompetent leadership of the EU Commission who have literally brought the plague to their continent by themselves. Apart from the UK, the leadership of vast majority of  Western European countries have played a terrible role in bringing despair and open and imminent danger upon their own citizens.

And even after the carnage in Paris, defiant in his support of the Islamic cause, President Hollande had the guts to state that 30,000 more Syrian refugees will be welcomed to France. When lunacy is a private hobby, it is an individual’s right; but when an individual happens to be on duty, and the duty happens to be presidency over the French Republic, it mean 66 million French citizens are to be forced to share the lunacies of their leader.

Among the price of those lunacies are costumes and chemical warfare equipment stolen in Paris, and imposed heavy military presence at the Paris water supply facilities, with the French prime minister Valls’ warning to the French public about possible chemical or bacteriological attacks by the terrorists. Islamic radical terrorists.

There are live military exercises of the British Royal Marine commandos on UK ferries as there is a reason to believe that the ferries might become the other subject of the attack – by the Islamic radical terrorists. There are also controlled explosions on the packed by people malls in Kent  – for the same reason.

We are watching a hand-made terror thriller non-stop. We are playing in it, as a matter of fact.  Forced to play with our lives, by our idiotic, inept governments.

Just a week after the Paris attacks, the Belgian government which obviously is not in favour of taking any chances, had virtually shut down Brussels trying to detect several terrorists – Islamic radical terrorists – who are believed to be planning an imminent attack. Only after the terror threat was become officially adopted as the highest one for Belgium, did the country’s interior minister express his ‘wish’ to inspect every household in Mollenbeck, the primarily Muslim district in Brussels that has become the terrorist Mecca of Europe. Think about the degree of total administrative dismay in which the capital of the European Union, rather symbolically, has found itself.

It is there, to Mollenbeck, that the UK dangerous terrorist, an accomplice of Jihadi-John, escaped successfully earlier in 2015, after the UK authorities lifted their close 5-year’ surveillance of him. The question is not about lifting the surveillance. There could be various operative reasons for that. The question is 5 years of passively allowing a dangerous Islamic terrorist to operate inside a free democratic Western society. This is the fundamental issue of the West’s hopeless attitude towards the Islamic terrorists in its midst. Hopeless, blind, and lethal – as everybody is having the pleasure to observe live.

Preconditions: A blind eye turned on reality

In retrospect, the current explosion of refugees on European soil originated from Italy a few years ago when the Italian authorities could not keep their border, an external border of the European Union, intact.  For a number of reasons, not the least of them rapidly changing governments, all from left to central left, the Italians were unable to prevent the crushing waves of illegal immigrants to the Italian shore and islands. Illegal is a key word there.

As all special services know, the problem with guarding its border always had been the weakest point in the entire Italian security system. To aggravate the situation, under the leftist governments, the Italian special services had been disbanded and re-structured dramatically, with very negative and long-lasting effects. It disarmed the country’s abilities to contain the dangerous elements among the uncontrollable stream of refugees – and ‘refugees’.

Using the so-called ‘Italian model’ for the next wave of immigration, those forces who had been orchestrating it modelled the nightmare which has covered Europe. The ‘Italian model’ means portraying the illegal invaders as a casualty of humanitarian catastrophe and playing the cards accordingly.

So today we have mushroomed from the original ‘Italian shell’ to the Greek model’, ‘Balkan model’, ‘Russian model’ of all those ‘refugees’. How very simple and efficient of them. And how certifiably stupid and pathetically irresponsible of us.

The current governments of many European countries are to bear responsibility in creating the conditions for the explosion of the Islamic Jihad in Europe today; and expectedly, the more left those governments are, the worse the security situation there has become with regard to radical Islam.

According to the security professionals, “there is not the slightest coincidence in the fact that among all Islamists from Europe fighting in Syria and elsewhere today, more than half are from France. Moreover, the terrible (security) threat is the fact that they, apart from very rare exceptions, come and go back and forth almost freely. It is not good enough to know a potential terrorist’s name. It is just absolutely against rules of security to let those who did fight in the Middle East on the side of militant Islam to be allowed back to the country which contains their European or any other Western residence. It is insane” – many top counter-terrorism experts, like Eric Stakelbeck and Morten Storm have said time and again. In vain.

And it is no coincidence that Belgium has become the centre of the Islamist jihadists today – the Belgian special service is pathetically small and under-resourced.

We cried with France over 130 and possibly more victims of the carnage in Paris, but we have to be crystal clear on the understanding that it is this Hollande government that had been repeatedly warned to stop appeasing an incredible amount of French radical Islamists and start to do something real against them to protect French citizens. They bear full responsibility for fatal siege of Paris. For five years they followed one of the terrorists – why? until the 13th November attack?

All serious experts on radical Islam, people like Morgen Storm who infiltrated the highest command of Al-Qaeda and has studied Islam for ten years non-stop, are telling the Western authorities: “Those people are not coming to Europe and the West to live. They are coming to die”. Why on earth did Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande, and all the rest of the Western leaders not have the sense of responsibility to listen? Western European leadership has failed in its most important duty, that is, to provide security and safety for their citizens.

But how can even the best intentions to limit Islamic radical threat be realistically carried on when the current government of Greece is enthusiastically letting all the hordes coming from the Middle East and Africa to get into Europe without bearing any responsibility for flooding the continent with hundreds and thousands of potential terrorists?

According to the MI5 officially aired calculations, ‘every two in a hundred of current migrants are connected with ISIS.’ Not aired publicly, but far more precise data shows ‘at least 10% of entering Europe immigrants from the Middle East and Africa are connected to ISIS/” Does the Greek government care who they are letting into Europe en masse? Even if they know, the best one can expect from them and their services is information to their colleagues on some of the suspects. Post-factum, as happened in the case of the Paris attacks.

The Scandinavian countries are known for lenience towards the Islamic radicalism threat in general, but now they also went too far on that extremely dangerous path. Norway simply disarmed their policemen – as they had produced an assessment that “the security situation has been improved now” – supposedly, after Breivick’s shooting spree a couple of years ago. The assessment and the decision on disarming the police occurred in mid-November 2015, in the midst of the non-stop flow of refugees into Norway, day and night. How one can be so fundamentally stupid?

In Sweden, the leftist government is doing everything in its power to welcome and accommodate young strong males from the Middle East to such an extent that the friendly Danish leftist government has decided to close the border with its sister country in order to handle the non-stop ocean of refugees – somehow. Only after that, facing an overwhelming amount of refugees, the Swedish prime-minister admitted publicly in his interview to The Financial Times that they, the government, were ‘naive’ in their assessments. It is nice of him, to emphasise their good will, but it is not the whole truth. The Swedish line towards Palestinians and the other terrorists – Islamic radical ones – is fairly consistent and aired regularly by their super-partisan foreign minister Mme Wallstrom. She even proudly wears the Islamic Crescent pendant on her neck, and did so publicly after the Paris attacks – note the photos available.

Wallstrom with Pendant INN:RC

Finland, too, is trying to regulate the uncontrollable stream of refugees coming from Sweden, but not with much success. Additionally, the Finnish premiere who is a good and believing person, but one without much experience in international policy, and who did act spontaneously and emotionally, prompted by tragic personal reasons, and publicly invited the refugees to his house, literally to his house. What better PR scheme to get potential terrorists on to European soil?

Analysing the activities of Western European leaders with regard to handling the refugee crisis in 2015, one just cannot help being totally taken aback by their ability to do everything in their power to put their own citizens in danger. Mortal danger, for the record.

The trans-Atlantic dimension

And what can we, law-abiding citizens of the Western world, hope to get by way of support to the largely lost European governments in their never -really-started-fight against international terrorism looking across the Atlantic Ocean? The most depressing picture of all, it must be observed.

We have the American president who, on top of all his long and astounding record of appeasement of radical Islam in the world does-not-matter-what, did ‘not want to speculate on who was behind the terror’ carnage in Paris where the perpetrators were screaming Allah Akbar ! madly.

In amazingly revealing interview the very morning of the November 13th attack, the same president with all his trade-marked aplomb confided happily to the old friend of Clintons, George Stephanopolus on his ABC TV show that in the opinion of the president of the USA, he ‘did not think that ISIS has been gaining power’, but rather to the contrary, ‘we did contain it’. As Michael Freund noted, during his statement on the carnage in Paris, which claimed the death of at least one US citizen, USA President Barack Hussein Obama did not use the following words at all: “Muslim”, “Islam”, “Jihad”, “Islamic State”. In the West we live in a giant theatre of the absurd.

And of course, the same president is pushing hard to get his program to accept up to 100 thousands Syrian refugees into the USA during two months despite of healthy negative response to that by over 30 states of the country.

From one side, I do think that it is responsible decision of the current US Administration. They indeed, did create such a chaos in the Middle East, that the US should bear a primary responsibility for the refugees from the region. But from the point of view of the US citizens, it is the same suicidal games as frau Merkel has initiated in Europe. We have some luck to live under masochistic leadership, it shall be stated.

No wonder that more than a half of the American public is sharply against that recent ‘Christmas gift’ to them from their president. Maybe, US democracy is stronger than the European one, and common sense will prevail there? – one hopes in overwhelming despair.

The change of political guard in two other big and important countries across the Ocean certainly does not add anything positive to the prospects of security and safety of the West. After two terms of steady, friendly, human, decent and stable conservative government in Canada, the voters there decided to change it all in favour of youngish inexperienced political demagogue Mess Trudeau Jr. One of the very first steps has has made is to announce of acceptance of ‘at least’ 25 000 Syrian refugees into the country ‘before the end of this year’. And how many are planned for next year? one wonders.

Canadian Premier and friends INN:IR

The first statement of the Canadian prime-minister elect was the one on  withdrawing the Canadian jets from the US-led coalition trying to fight ISIS. His first decision after the Islamic jihad started in Europe was to fly up to 900 Syrian refugees into Canada and agree up to 900 Syrian refugees – and ‘ refugees’ – daily. Such a devotion to Islam demonstrated by its recently elected leader. But it comes as no surprise for the experts. The devotion of Justin Trudeau to Islam is well known and well enough documented. It poses serious questions, too.

Coming in the same worrisome motion, in the case of Australia  it was the country’s former prime minister Tony Abbot who did come forward with an adequate statement while the recently changed liberal Mr Thurnbull did not utter a word about what has happened in Paris, thus in Europe, thus in the world.

What the West has on its hands now with regard to its leadership is that, except the current leadership of the UK, there are promising combinations of bad and even worse leaders –  those who are unable to comprehend the threat posed by militant Islam, and those who support Islam in general and appease it, including the militant part of it.

Turning to Israel

Ironically, French, Russian, German and the other counter-terror officials, and many international experts on the field are turning to Israel for its expertise, understanding and knowledge of radical Islam. In the recent cased of the terrorist attacks against Russia and France, it was the Israeli intelligence that provided crucial information and did help both Russian and French authorities.

More and more often one can hear nowadays in both public commentaries and quiet professional talks that “Israelis has to be contacted”, “We shall use the Israeli models and approach”, “ We should ask Israeli colleagues for help”. How really dramatic life is: Israel has gained its knowledge and experience with an incredibly high price. Israeli citizens are attacked and murdered almost daily. Unlike the world-swiping passionate sentiments for the victims in Paris, most of the very same Western media that has done such a good job on the Paris attacks and German and Brussels would-be-attacks, are either distorting the truth about Israel being under the siege of the Palestinian terror, or ignoring the very fact of it.

Still, Israel and its people did show exemplary solidarity with France ,showing to the world once again, and not for the sake of a demonstration, on what moral principles the Jewish state is based and lives on.

Europe and the Western world are not as we knew it, after radical Islamic terror zapped Paris on the night of November 13th 2015, and threatened Germany and Belgium immediately after that. “We are at war”, –  saythe citizens of Europe, – “We are under attack”.

The fact is that the attack has just started. Jihad has exploded into the face of the Western world and in the very heart of it. They have no intention of stopping or to slowing down. And the leaders of the West have to start to fulfil the most essential of their duties  – to protect the right for life of the citizens of free, not yet quite Islamisized world.

Ayatollahs consider the US their chief target

Below you’ll find my politically-incorrect columns on the most critical threat to US national security and economic interests: the nuclearized Ayatollahs. They conduct hate-America education system, bankroll global anti-US Islamic terrorism, terrorize all pro-US Arab regimes, co-develop nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities with anti-US North Korea, collaborate militarily with anti-US Venezuela, egregiously violate civil liberties and systematically abrogate agreements.

The articles are based on my 40 year experience  – as a researcher, diplomat (Ambassador), lecturer, writer and consultant to members of the US Congress and Israel’s Knesset –  in the areas of Middle East politics, US-Israel relations and US policy in the Middle East:

1. Iran’s School Textbooks – can Congress afford to ignore the most authentic reflection of the Ayatollahs’ inherent anti-US tactics & strategy?

2.  Saudi Arabia VS. President Obama and Secretary Kerry (the pro-US Arab regimes consider the nuclear deal a lethal threat).

3. The Nuclearized Ayatollahs would compound major threats, to vital US interests, posed by the conventional Ayatollahs.

4. Iran and the suspension of disbelief – can the US afford a nuclear Iran?

5. Iran – there are reasonable alternatives!

6. The US voter is very clear on the Iran debate.

7. Military options/threats prevent war.

8. Israel’s unique contributions to the US national security: http://bit.ly/16FP01N.

Why the Iran Deal is a Bad Deal

August 22, 2015

Motzei Shabbat  (After Shabbat)

“Unfolding Nightmare”

On Friday, I wrote about the letter Obama wrote to Jerrold Nadler (D – NY 10th), in which he stated that he considers Israel’s security “sacrosanct” and intends to provide additional military assistance to Israel if the deal passes.

At that time I asked, rhetorically, if anyone imagined that we Israelis, in light of the Iran deal Obama has promoted, are so naïve as to believe Obama considers Israel’s security sacrosanct.

After I had written on Friday, Congressman Nadler announced that he will support the Iran deal.  And so we see that the letter had its intended effect: Not to reassure Nadler, but to provide him with necessary cover for supporting the president.  (Going against Obama is tough, and requires considerable strength, when he’s leaning on you.)

Nadler said he made his decision “in large part” because of his support for Israel.

http://www.jta.org/2015/08/21/news-opinion/politics/nadler-supports-iran-deal-following-obama-letter#.VddOM0_rAeA.gmail

My observation: no one in Congress who opposes the deal says he or she is doing it because of support for Israel.  That would expose the legislator to charges of putting Israel ahead of the US (a charge to which Jewish members of Congress are particularly vulnerable). But to say he is taking his stance “for Israel” is safe for Nadler, since he’s supporting Obama.

I have one question for Congressman Nadler (one I wish several of his constituents in the upper West Side of NYC would ask please him): Since the prime minister of Israel, the Defense Minister, in fact all of the Cabinet, and the great majority of the Israeli people are all opposed to the deal and believe it is very bad for Israel, how does he have the chutzpah [audacity] to say he’s supporting it “for Israel”?

~~~~~~~~~~
As to the deal itself, I find myself continuously writing that we haven’t seen the end of it (the bad news) yet.  And here is a bit more:
Omri Ceren of The Israel Project has written that (bolding emphasis added):
“The IAEA has been trying to get access to the facility for years to figure out how far the Iranians got, as a prerequisite to setting up a verification regime preventing them from going further. The Obama administration told lawmakers throughout the Iran talks there could be no deal without the Iranians providing that access, but the AP yesterday published the text of a side deal between the IAEA and Iran indicating that the West had caved on that demand.
“…the side deal guts the JCPOA’s verification regime for future violations, which the administration has put at the center of the Iran deal. Administration officials really had no choice: once they [the US administration] gave up on any demands that would physically preclude the Iranians from going nuclear – dismantling centrifuges, mothballing facilities, etc – verification was all they had left. But it’s difficult to see how the pretense of verification can be sustained now that the Parchin side deal has been detailed:
“The side deal will become the precedent for future inspections of military sites”
Ceren also says:
“IAEA sign-off suggests the agency has bent to political pressure “  This is what Jonathan Tobin also claimed, in his article I cited Friday. “The Parchin arrangement is a humiliation for the IAEA…
“Amano’s defense of the Parchin side deal comes amid speculation that the IAEA is being subject to overwhelming pressure by the Americans and the Iranians. On the American side, the leverage is straightforward: Amano is up for reelection next year, and he perennially relies on Western nations to provide him with slim majorities.”
~~~~~~~~~~

Iran has just unveiled a new Iranian-made surface to surface missile – The Fateh 313 ballistic missile, with a 500-kilometer (300 miles) range and featuring advanced sensors and technology.

Iranian president Rouhani (once promoted as a “moderate”) declared at the unveiling of the rocket: Iran’s strategy is based on defense and deterrence. The first line is diplomats and the second line is generals. Diplomats should be backed by generals. If they fail, it is the generals’ turn to come forward.”  Translation: We will rely on war if we cannot succeed at the negotiating table.

~~~~~~~~~~
And then this, with all else tabled until tomorrow:
“Dr. Ali Hosseini-Tash, currently the deputy secretary of Supreme National Security Council for Strategic Affairs, is the signatory on behalf of Iran to the agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA, revealed last week by the Associated Press.”
According to a dissident Iranian group located in Paris, the National Council of Resistance in Iran (NCRI), Hosseini-Tash is “a military commander who was tasked with militarizing Iran’s nuclear program.”
According to a member of NCRI, “In this position, he [Hosseini-Tash] has been intimately involved in every detail of the bomb-making program and is fully aware of the program’s vulnerabilities and concealment tactics.”
Israel and the non-omnipotent US presidency – Yoram Ettinger
December 28, 2014
White House and Department of State officials contend that – irrespective of Congress – President Obama can apply effective diplomatic, commercial and national security pressure, coercing Israel to repartition Jerusalem, and retreat from the mountain ridges of Judea and Samaria to the 9-15 mile wide pre-1967 sliver, surrounded by the violently turbulent and unpredictable Arab Street.
That inaccurate underestimate of the power of Congress – which has traditionally opposed pressure on Israel, echoing the sentiments of most constituents – was recently expressed by US Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro: “what is unmistakable about our foreign policy system is that the Constitution provides the president with the largest share of power….”
The assumption that US foreign policy and national security are shaped by presidential omnipotence is refuted by recent precedents and the US Constitution.  The latter was created by the Founding Fathers, who were determined to limit the power of government and preclude the possibility of executive dictatorship. They were apprehensive of potential presidential excesses and encroachment, and therefore assigned the formulation of foreign policy and national security to both Congress and the president.  Obviously, the coalescing of congressional policy among 535 legislators constitutes a severe disadvantage for the legislature.
According to the Congressional Quarterly, the US Constitution rectified the mistakes of its predecessor, the Articles of Confederation, upgrading the role of Congress to the primary branch of the US government.  “Hence, the first article of the Constitution is dedicated to Congress. The powers, structure, and procedures of the national legislature are outlined in considerable detail in the Constitution, unlike those of the presidency and the judiciary….”
Unlike all other Western democracies – where the executive branch of government dominates the legislature, especially in the area of international relations and defense – the US Constitution laid the foundation for the world’s most powerful legislature, and for an inherent power struggle over the making of foreign policy between the legislature and the executive, two independent, co-equal and co-determining branches of government.  Moreover, while the president is the commander-in-chief, presidential clout depends largely on congressional authorization and appropriation in a system of separation of powers and checks and balances, especially in the areas of sanctions, foreign aid, military assistance, trade agreements, treaty ratification, appointment confirmation and all spending.
Congressional power has been dramatically bolstered since the Vietnam War, Watergate, Iran Gate and globalization, which have enhanced the involvement of most legislators in international issues, upgraded the oversight capabilities of Congress, dramatically elevated the quality and quantity of some 15,000(!) Capitol Hill staffers and have restrained the presidency.
However, Congress has often abdicated its constitutional power in the area of foreign policy, failing to fully leverage the power of the purse: funding, defunding and “fencing.” Thus, legislators prefer to be preoccupied with domestic issues, which are the primary concerns of their constituents and, therefore, decide their re-electability. Therefore, they usually allow the president to take the lead in the initiation and implementation of foreign and national security policies, unless the president abuses their trust, outrageously usurping power, violating the law, assuming an overly imperial posture, pursuing strikingly failed policies, or dramatically departing from national consensus (e.g., the deeply rooted, bi-partisan commitment to the Jewish State). Then, Congress reveals impressive muscle as befits a legislature, which is the most authentic reflection of the American people, unrestrained by design, deriving its power from the constituent and not from party leadership or the president, true to the notion that “the president proposes, but Congress disposes.”
For example:
*On August 1, 2014, Democratic senators forced President Obama to de-link the $225mn funding of Iron Dome batteries from the highly controversial $2.7bn immigration and border security bill.
*Since 1982 and 1999, the Senate has repeatedly refused to ratify the Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
*The January 2013 defense authorization bill tightened restrictions on the transfer of terrorists from Guantanamo to the US.  In May 2009, Majority Leader Harry Reid foiled President Obama’s attempt to close down the detention camp.
*On February 17, 2011, President Obama reluctantly vetoed a UN Security Council condemnation of Israel’s settlement policy, due to bi-partisan Congressional pressure.
*In September 2012, a $450 million cash transfer to the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt was blocked by Congress.
*The 2012 budget cut into Obama’s foreign aid spending request by more than $8bn.
*In 2009, bi-partisan congressional opposition prevented the appointment of Chas Freeman to chair the National Intelligence Council.
*In 1990-92, Congress approved a series of amendments, unprecedentedly expanding US-Israel strategic cooperation, despite presidential opposition.
*In 1990, President Bush failed in his attempt to cut Israel’s foreign aid by 5% due to Congressional opposition.
*In January, 1975, the Jackson-Vanik Amendment was signed into law, in defiance of the president.
*Congress ended US military involvement in Vietnam (the 1973 Eagleton, Cooper and Church amendments), Angola (the 1976 Clark Amendment) and Nicaragua (the 1982-1984 Boland Amendments).
In 1991, Senator Daniel Inouye fended off Administration pressure to withdraw an amendment to upgrade the port of Haifa facilities for the Sixth Fleet: “According to the US Constitution, the legislature supervises the executive, not vice versa….” Will the 114th Congress follow in his footsteps, or will it abdicate its constitutional responsibilities?
